Sunday was the kind of busy bookstore owners dream of.
At Bookmiser, books were bringing people together in every corner of the store—book club members sharing food and a lively discussion of their monthly selection, friends exploring our sci-fantasy shelves, strangers bonding over our Georgia authors display, and a young reader celebrating the discovery of 20 Baby-Sitters Club books missing from her collection.
There was a buzz in the air. A sense of community. And I couldn’t help but smile.
Then came the moment that made the day unforgettable.
One of our regulars quietly handed me her American Express card. She had noticed a mom and her children filling their arms with books and wanted to anonymously pay for their entire purchase.
When I told the mom her books had been paid for, she stared at me in disbelief. Then came the realization: someone had chosen to give her family a gift simply because they could.
Before leaving, the mom handed me a note and some cash and asked me to pay the gift forward.
This is what books can do. They create community. They spark connection. They invite generosity.
And sometimes, the magic of a bookstore isn’t just found on the shelves. ❤️📚
