👀 Have you seen our spooky display? It’s HalloReads season!

As you walk into our Marion store, you will be greeted for the next few weeks by an array of horror, creepy, or otherwise scary titles. Some macabre accessories can also be found in this curated yet haunted selection.

On top of this, a haunting of ghosts can be found hiding in plain sight in both stores. They are little and not too difficult to find. Grab one, show us at checkout, get 5% off your total in-store purchase, and keep the ghost as a reward for excellent ghost-busting.

He’s played a lot of roles over the years, but a favorite is the creative, fun-loving heart of this bookstore adventure.

He is the resident wordsmith, the designer of our posts, and the creative engine that keeps a million ideas circulating. He has a rare gift for making the day-to-day tasks fun.

Because the competition between the two of us is always fierce, I’m officially awarding him “Employee of the Week” today. I think he earned it! 😉 🏆

We have an intentionally stunted week this week, so make your plans now to visit us in Marion or Bucyrus.

Both stores will be closed on Friday for our son’s knee surgery and open in a split shift on Saturday. One of us will be at Dayspring Wesleyan Church for their youth group’s craft show and community event from 9 to 2. Shall we see you there?

We’ve been pondering a new event this year, and as November is approaching, we thought a gathering of grateful readers was desperately needed. Join us as we proudly present Bert’s BooksGiving—a Thanksgiving celebration with bookish friends, old and new!

Join us on Thursday, November 12th or Saturday, November 14th for a fun-filled time of bookish conversation, a shared food table, an exclusive store discount, and a blind book exchange. Come to one or both!

Blind Book Exchange: Wrap up to three of your gently used books from home to exchange with fellow readers! We recommend writing a few bullet points on the wrapping (genre, vibe, quick premise, or trope) so people know what to expect—without giving away the title. Chat with other book lovers and leave with new-to-you reads! (The exchange takes place roughly one hour after doors open).

Shared Food Table: Bring a favorite holiday dip, appetizer, or dessert to share! Please include a small card with allergen information (e.g., contains nuts, gluten-free, dairy) with your dish. Birch Tree Bookery will provide select beverages, paper plates, napkins, and cutlery, but feel free to bring your own favorite drink as well.
