On this day in 1865 General Order No. 3 was issued in Galveston Texas, informing a group of enslaved people that their freedom had actually been declared more two years prior.
Freedoms may be far greater today than in 1865 but we still have a long way to go. On Juneteenth Black Americans celebrate what they've overcome, and White Americans are called to examine what we can do to move the fight for freedom forward.
