While Aimee was away working at the candy convention, it looks like Tom and our army of gummies were keeping themselves entertained! 🍬😂

While Nicki and I were off at the candy convention in Indianapolis, someone had to keep the caramel flowing back home!

Don’t let this video fool you, Tom has been making caramel for 23 years and knows his way around a kettle or two. In fact, he’s getting ready to pour another batch after already making TWO batches yesterday.

Now, we might argue that his pan pour isn’t quite as pretty as Aimee’s or Nicki’s… but when it comes to taste? We’ll happily admit it’s every bit as delicious.

Good caramel doesn’t take a vacation, and neither does Tom. 🍿🍫

Thanks for keeping the kitchen running while we were away, Snacky!

Well, that’s a wrap on Candy Convention 2026!

Over the last four days, we’ve tasted more candy than we care to admit, explored the latest equipment, discovered new packaging ideas, attended educational sessions, and filled our notebooks with enough inspiration to keep us busy for months.

Today was tour day, and we were welcomed with the kind of small-town hospitality that reminds us why we love this industry so much.

Indianapolis, we came, we saw, we conquered.

While I’m a little sad it’s over, I’m sure glad to be home. A special shoutout to Nicki for being an excellent travel partner through all the chocolate, gummies, popcorn, and miles on the road.

Thank you for following along on our candy-filled adventure this week. Now comes the fun part… bringing home all these sweet ideas and putting them to work at Lillie Mae Chocolates.

Day 3 at the candy convention and WOW… our heads are spinning with ideas!

Today was all about the expo floor. We walked aisle after aisle checking out everything from gummies and chocolates to packaging, displays, equipment, ingredients, and trends. If there was a candy-related idea out there, we probably stopped to look at it.

The funny part? We started the day thinking we had a plan. Then every few steps we’d find something and say, “Ooh, that’s a great idea!”

By the end of the day, our feet were tired, our notebooks were full, and our brains were running about a mile a minute.

We can’t wait to get back home and start sorting through all the inspiration. Some of it may end up in the store. Some of it may end up in the kitchen. And some of it may just spark the next big thing.

Ever heard of Layout Lane? ☀️🌈

In today’s popcorn history lesson, we discovered that Layout Lane was the spot in Clear Lake where people would head to lay out in the sun and soak up summer at the lake. So naturally… we turned it into popcorn. 😆

Our Layout Lane popcorn is a colorful mix of raspberry, apple, lemon, orange, and strawberry flavors that tastes like summer vacation in a bag.

Marshalltown may not have had a Layout Lane… but Clear Lake sure did. And honestly? We think every lake town deserves a popcorn this fun.

POV… Customer: “I’d like to speak to the manager.”

Nicki: walks over to Aimee

Aimee: “Why are you coming to me?”

Nicki: “Because you’re the owner.”

Aimee: “But YOU’RE the manager!”

Apparently, we’ve trained everyone that if there’s a question, concern, compliment, suggestion, or important candy-related emergency, they need to find Aimee.

The funny part? Nicki can handle it too.

We may look enough alike that people occasionally confuse us, and we’ve known each other since high school, but after all these years working together, there’s not much one of us can solve that the other can’t.

So next time you come in, don’t worry about tracking down the “right” person. Whether you get Aimee or Nicki, we’ve got you covered.
