Yesterday & Today recently acquired a 1910 National Cash Register (NCR) model 441 cash register to add to the ambience of ringing up customer sales. Why not. We are an antique store after all.
The NCR 441 only goes up to $9.99 and in 1910 that was a lot of money. The average income for all industries was around $574 while state and local government workers made $699 per year.
It also does not add or add taxes so adding had to be on a piece of paper. It weighs about 170 pounds.
The cash register was invented in 1879 to prevent employee from stealing. The cash register came to represent not only American consumerism but also a form of mistrust.

Jeb at Yesterday & Today has Uranium glass in his room. He also has UV lights for sale which cause Uranium glass to fluoresce bright green.

Uranium glass has had uranium added to a glass mix for coloration. The most common is pale yellowish-green which in the 1930s led to the nickname "Vaseline glass" because it looked like "Vaseline" petroleum jelly.

Other common names for opaque ot semi-opaque Uranium glass was custer glass for a pale yellow or Jadite glads for pale green.

Some natural stones will also glow under UV light.
