Blackfish season on the Sound is officially open, and our good friends Joe and John didn’t waste any time, grabbing some fresh live green crabs from Jamesport B&T, and heading out of Mattituck.
The waters around Hortons were boiling with giant alligator Blues and Albies, but it was the blackfish that were the stars of the day, including a beautiful 22” 8 pound slob.
Nice job guys! Now get out there and enjoy these beautiful fall fishing days and catch a few of these delicious fish.

Sushi anyone?
With all the wind this season getting offshore has been difficult, but our good friend Jay Jansen and his neighbor Ed picked a good day Monday, heading out from Mattituck through Shinecock and 50 miles South/Southeast. It wasn’t long before Jay was engaged in a 50 minute battle with this beautiful 49 inch Yellowfin Tuna.
That is one delicious fish!
Congratulations Jay and Ed, now pass the wasabi.

September fishing on Peconic Bay is still red hot right now for those chasing Weakfish and Porgies. It may be almost Summer, but the Spring run is still red hot, with large weakfish and Blues being the stars of the show here in Peconic Bay. Fluke have been tough, but persistence has payed off. Temperatures may be cooling, but the fishing is Red Hot for our own Baitshop Bill, his grandson Cameron, and Jay Jansen aboard the Coyote out of Orient Point. 30 Blackfish and 25 Sea Bass kept them working hard all day. Nice job guys!

Well, if you listened to the weather man and went pumpkin pickin’ instead of fishing, boy did you miss out on one of the most beautiful days on the bay!
Here’s our friend John Schuman, who had the bay to himself, and caught a beautiful mixed bag of Weakfish, Porgies, Blowfish, Kingfish, and a surprise Schoolie Striper (quickly released). Jamesport B&T clams and squid were the ticket for his memorable day.
It ain’t over folks, come on in and let Baitshop Bill put you on the fish.🐟🎣
