We hope this helps everyone understand the framework and the goal wild steelhead numbers. We know this: Steelhead fishing on the Deschutes will close this year on August 15. It may reopen by September 15 - but we need to hit the numbers in order for that to happen.

Tried to post this yesterday…..didn’t post. Sadly, it looks like the Deschutes steelhead fishery is going to close by August 15. Our numbers over Bonneville were not enough to keep the fishery open.

FUll moon was actually on Monday the 29th, so the moon is now waning (getting smaller) and should not have any effect on your fishing this weekend.

John Hazel and his little Red Ranger...by the time this photo was taken in the mid-1980's, John had already figured out what his life was about: get in the truck and go fishing. With all the intention of a Buddhist monk, (minus the austerity measures) John did just that. The trucks have changed over the years, but his singular dedication to the craft of steelhead fly-fishing has not. A fifty-year career as a guide, co-owner of Deschutes Angler, and a long history in several campaigns to protect and restore steelhead waters are worth hearing about.
