As I was installing a new ribbon rack this week, I couldn’t help but stop and admire the colors. Each ribbon is vibrant, beautiful, and unique on its own - but together, they create something even more meaningful.
A few years ago, I would have hesitated to make a Pride Month post as a small business owner. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized something important. The people who would be offended by a post like this probably aren’t shopping with us anyway, because they already know that Katie J’s is co-owned by a gay man.
What matters more is knowing that there are approximately 168,600 Kentuckians who deserve to know they have a safe and welcoming place when they walk through our doors at 505 South 6th Street.
Recently, Katie J’s became the first approved OutFit Inc. location in Mayfield. Based in Paducah, Outfit’s mission is to build a region where LGBTQ+ individuals are safe, supported, included, and celebrated. We’re proud to partner with an organization that believes every person deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to be their authentic self.
At Katie J’s, everyone is welcome. Regardless of your beliefs, background, identity, or life experiences, we believe everyone deserves beautiful things, meaningful gifts, and a place where they feel comfortable and valued.
Representation matters. Kindness matters. Community matters.
And just like the ribbons on this rack, every color brings something special to the display. Life is much the same way. Our differences don’t diminish our beauty - they help create it.
