I don’t think you should sleep on making a giant batch of zucchini fritters for the freezer. They make the most of your bumper crop of cucurbits, and if you add chickpea flour, grated paneer, and eggs— it’s basically a veg forward frittata in small form. I like mine over salty herbed Greek yogurt, and knowing this took less time than making coffee.

Now that school has officially started, I’m here to say, if you need a brown bag upgrade— I’ve got you covered. From bento tins to salad jars, stainless water bottles and ceramic to go coffee cups, I am here to help you hurry a little less, and finally quit that takeout habit for good. You deserve more than soggy sandwiches and styrofoam my sweet thing. 💋

We got a great shipment of weck jars in last week, and I want to talk to you about quality. If you have ever ever ever been a jam maker or pickle producer in your kitchen, if you’ve ever tried to freeze batches of soup or broth or beans and had your preservation dreams dashed by broken glass— now is the time to make peace with the decline in usability and forever quality of mason jars.

Some are great. Some live up to their expectations and marketed usefulness. But how many have exploded or splintered or cracked in your hard working, well intentioned hands?

Anyway. German made weck jars are thick. The glass is even all the way around. They are properly heated and cooled and designed for durability. They last forever and mine have sustained shocks and drops and clumsy soapy hands and a porcelain sink unscathed. They are my go to for everything. Canning, freezing, serving. Dry storage. Dog food. Coffee. Vases for flowers. Utensil corralling. Sea shells.

And, they make a food gift special. They are great looking now, and I cannot tell them apart from the ones I have that are 15 years old.

Their most dangerous fate? Never being returned.

Anyway, make some tomato butter and you’ll be singing songs of summer in the middle of February.

Happy hump day. We are open until 5. 💋🍅💋

There’s still time, you know. To sit in companionable silence with your favorite person, winding through back roads, windows down, syncopated sunshine through the leaves. There’s time for stopping and sitting and staring and taking those ocean big breaths that only seem to come when added to the former. There’s time to watch the ice melt, the wood burn, the sun sink. There’s time to keep running away from rushing and the slow crush of other people’s expectations. There’s time for what’s most important— living it. Learning it. Loving it.

Summer is not over, friends. Even if you’re headed back to school. We’ve got 21 days and I intend to spend them absolutely steeped in the season. It’s my favorite, as you know.

But, but, but…

… these stainless steel bento boxes with little partitions? A school lunch OR the perfect road trip charcuterie holder.

A stack of shiny perfect weck jars? For putting up all that garden goodness OR stashing snacks.

It’s it a book bag for MATH, or a poetry parcel?

Candles are cozy, and also some smell like bonfires and bouquets and forest frolics.

Happy Sunday. We are open until 5. 💋

Basil butter is nice for the freezer. It’s especially nice fresh from the blender, aerated as cake frosting, and showered in herby salt. I think you should put a pinch of sugar in it, to really do all those enormous, curved canopy leaves justice.

This is a post about Weck jars, though. Fresh stock arriving Wednesday for all your garden savoring and storing needs.

Or. For work lunches. School snacks. If that’s your truth this week. 😘

There’s a new candle in town. Redolent of freshly turned earth, leaves caressing your face as you tend tend tend. A very green thing indeed.

I think you should know nice things about your friends. We are friends, right?

I really like cosmos.

If you’ve been here a bit, you already knew that. Their weedy, tenacious little bobble heads, delicate but actually tough. Popping up wherever they are planted, and sometimes where they are not. Sidewalk cracks are as comfortable as a loamy landscaped garden patch. And— they give and give and give. Long after all the other summer flowers have quit their sun and root reaching, cosmos are here for a good time and a long time.

Maybe because my birthday is in October and all I’m left with are sunflowers and mums and asters and all things orange and red and brown (no thank you), I’m greatful they stick around so long, that there are still dancing and delicate petals to push into my greedy, flower loving hands.

Thanks, Ferjulian's Farm - you grow great ones. XO

The annual Summer Send Off Sale starts tomorrow, and if you want deals on dresses, baskets, bags, shoes and sandals, sunglasses, and summer decor— we will see you at 11am sharp.

The following Saturday is Maynard’s downtown sidewalk sale and I am pulling up old old back stock, my stash of antique longerberger baskets, and a lot of random do-dads priced to move.

PLUS— a small run of mystery boxes stuffed with $100 worth of goodies for $25. It’s a party.

Team gazpacho? Or no. I much prefer smooth versions with lots of fun stuff so every bite is different, but tell me what you like.

(Note the period and not a question mark. Go on, then. Chat amongst yourselves.)
