PERMIT DENIED.
There is some neighborhood opposition, which was expected. No one in favor of approving the Permit went to the meeting and fewer Approval Letters were sent to the Village than Disapproval Letters, which hurt the chances of getting the Board to approve the Permit.
There is some neighborhood approval, and some who at least are not opposed. I need help from those people, especially, and all village residents, generally.
There were several things that were said at the meeting, which were improper and not related to the application that was before the Board.
There were inconsistencies in the way they weighted certain Approval Letters versus Disapproval Letters.
Several people at the meeting commented that they changed their mind after I spoke to those in attendance, and answered several questions, but that was not recognized. I had verbal approval from several neighbors, but with no letter or no attendance at the meeting, they won't recognize it.
In an effort to keep the location discreet I had not posted the new address or made any public post or comment about the Permit application, making the previous post 24 hours prior to the Meeting.
I relied on residents reading the Notification Letters that were sent to neighbors and the newspaper posting that the village made, and voicing approval, on their own. This was a mistake, and it was mine, alone. I had hoped that people would have showed up to the meeting and/or written Approval Letters. Those opposed definitely did!
I will be more proactive explaining to the neighborhood that this is not some huge retail thing. It's just a Gunsmith workbench and paperwork, with an occasional retail sale if someone's item can't be repaired and needs to be replaced with a new item. This is one of the few "retail sales" that would occur. Any items going in or out will be in a box, case, or wrapped in a blanket. There will be no sign, no showroom, no standing inventory of guns or ammo. Special orders only. By appointment, only. Gunsmith and Services, Transfers only, with layered security. No impact on the neighborhood. Some people freak out when the "G-word" is used. It is a residential neighborhood, and I am sensitive to that fact. There are, however, stores, and bars, right around the corner, an abandoned factory, and several rental properties in the immediate vicinity, even though the Board said that the neighborhood consists of only single-family houses, which is not accurate, at all.
If a new application gets filed, I will need more input, in favor of having a gunsmith in town, without renting a commercial space. That's not the model I am looking for, here. They will not recognize "Likes" or even public Comments on any Facebook posts. It's got to be letters sent and/or attendance at the meeting, or I should just forget the whole thing. I'll even mail a pre-written form letter to any Village of Mayville resident who messages me their address, and a SASE to mail it to the village.
I need help with this, or it's just another application fee, wasted.
