Every so often, you just have to do something for yourself. Back in the day when I was just starting to play Battletech, I designed MY mech, for my main character (yeah, me). The design and stats got tweaked many times over the years, and since I'm a fan of homebrew tech, the end result was cool, but definitely illegal for official games. Meh, the rule of cool rules supreme in my shop.
Midwinter Minis has been doing a project on YouTube, upscaling battlemechs to 28mm, to eventually pit them against Warhammer knight titans to see who wins. (The mechs, obviously, but I might be biased here) It reminded me of my dreams of 28mm Battletech, which led me into papercraft models which led me into 3D modeling... and I decided I wanted to upscale my favorite mech.
The MAD-X Ushabti is based on the classic, Harmony-Gold-hates-FASA Marauder, but with some significant upgrades: LRMs, SRMs, a chin turret with twin anti-infantry weapons, and an AC/15 riding next to the gauss r***e on top. Of course, I had to make it poseable, magnetize the guns, give it options, kitbash a mechwarrior, a cockpit, the whole nine yards. It's nearing completion. Just have to finish the canopy and the chin turret, detail the cockpit, and make lots of weapon options. And of course, make it all compatible with the weapons on my imperial knights, because, why not?
