Annnd we're back with Friday Facts with Sheila πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ«πŸ“š.

What in the heck is a silent butler, you ask? In a nutshell, these were popular in the 20th century because they allowed hosts to clean up without the noisy commotion of a servant (though servants used them as well).

They typically featured a hinged lid to hide debris and had a handle for easy carrying. In the mid-1900s, hosts would use them alongside a small brush to clean crumbs off the dinner table or to empty ashtrays for guests in a smoking room. The name comes from the idea that the tray does the job of a butler quietly and without ceremony.

I apologize for missing this week's Friday Facts with Sheila. We've had some family and pet emergencies to take care of. I will return next Friday with more facts for you! Thank you for understanding πŸ’œ.

Let's start something new that will hopefully be fun πŸ˜€, educational πŸ“š and inspirational πŸ’œ. It's time for Friday Facts with SheilaπŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ«!

There are so many things in life that are cyclical, trending, what's old is new again (think bell bottoms, skorts, "Mom" jeans πŸ˜‚). One of those things having it's "moment" is the coveted breadbox 🍞.

Before the invention of plastic wrapping and modern food preservatives, bread was baked and purchased daily. The original purpose of the breadbox was to serve as a micro-climate. Specifically, they were meant to preserve texture by trapping just enough moisture to keep the crumb soft but allowing excess humidity to escape so you wouldn't have a soggy crust. It regulated air flow to slow down mold growth and deterred pests 🐜.

Now, vintage items are having their moment too (and hopefully that is here to stay! That will be a future Friday Facts post😁). Part of the breadbox trend is just that, a trend. But today, there has been a surge in artisan breads with all the great farm stands popping up everywhere. And the trending, coveted breadbox is the perfect kitchen item for keeping that delicious πŸ˜‹ bread fresh! Now, if we could just get the price to go down and the availability to increase πŸ˜‰.

Do you own one, grow up with one, searching for one? Do you have any other tidbits, tricks or knowledge that you would like to share? What are your thoughts πŸ’ - let me know in the comments and follow me for future Friday Facts with Sheila πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ« πŸ’œ!

Announcement (long post): due to varying reasons, I have relocated Trunk of Wonders. I would like to thank Connor and Avenue G Thrift Antiques Secondhand Store for allowing me to dip my toes into the world of having a vintage vendor booth. I would encourage anyone who is in the area, or passing through McIntosh, to shop small business there! It's a great historic building with a wonderful collection of vendors with a fantastic variety of treasures πŸ’œ.

With all that being said, my new location is at Sunflower Cottage & Antiques in Wildwood. This is a new boutique with new items for your home such as home decor, candles, faux plants, smelly good things, candies and a medley of other fabulous items.

Here's the fun part: there are 2 sections with antique and vintage vendor booths! There is an excellent assortment of items and I would invite everyone to come check them out! That treasure you've been looking for (or didn't know you needed πŸ˜‰) just might be here! πŸ›οΈπŸ›’
