Files, wax, and time, lots of time. When I see a finished custom piece of jewelry, that’s what I notice first. The time that must have gone into each element. One day soon (and is already now here) you can give ai a prompt and a designed piece of jewelry will be created, then sent over to a 3D printer. And voila, ai slop will be wearable. But those who value true craftsmanship and, the human spark of creativity and spirit, will never allow ai replace 2 hands, tools, and vast amounts of time to create something that is actually worth while. Fine jewelry is valuable because it costed the maker something. That something is a chunk of time. Time is the most valuable thing on this earth and we as jewelers choose to spend it making things of beauty. That should be worth something to those who choose to wear it. Wow! Rant over :)

Making the smallest Silver Eagle coin ring! — As I cut the seats for the stones that are going in this band, I keep my setting bur cool and lubricated by gripping it slightly with my fingers. The oils keep it cutting nice and cool. I don’t think many people are taught this way? How do you keep your burs cool when working?
