A young book buyer customer said to us recently that our Web Page is “so retro”. Hell yes, it is! Just the way we old retro folks prefer it. Very little flash. Some color and some pics. Info right up front. No A.I. (yet) - and some links to maps and links to our other retro pages. ………….. Black and white retro style catty pic below looking back behind his shoulder - reminding us that Mercury (Hermes) is not yet retrograde but will be in late October and into November. Labor Day Weekend is just a couple of weeks away. Resist those who stand against Labor and Children and Women and the poor. You know who. A Federal Judge has allowed an Arkansas law to go into effect that will lead to widespread book bans and jail time for librarians.

As reported in many places, AI companies are buying used books in effort to avoid piracy fines and court costs that follow grabbing text online. ...................... AI companies are Not buying used books from us because we here in Mecosta list very few used, rare, scarce books online. Presently we have NO used books listed online. We do sell our new publications online. If the fascists take over, that may change. ......................We are busy in real time (traveling a lot to buy books every week by house call, etc.) and see no need for the extra work of selling online even as we have tomes that would sell online in a heartbeat stashed in our multiple warehouses. Again, that may change come future "needs be". Besides, we believe that our many real-time customer base (regulars, one time visitors and tourists) should see the books offered when they walk into the narrow and high stacks. Full stop. ................... We buy our books with an eye to the real time biz. No scanning, no stickers, no barcodes - etc. The Future, as always, these days, is coming on fast.

AI companies are bulk-buying used books, scanning them, then destroying the originals to build clean training datasets - and a court ruling made it legal.

So sometimes we hear "anything good behind the counter"??? We are never sure how to respond to that question because there are only good books throughout the store - mass market paper and hardcover. Also scarce and rare. Attached is a taste from yesterday (Sunday, a two minute video); a "behind the counter" shot. We may be anti fascist. That is certainly true, it is also true that we do have good books. Resist where you can. Be safe celebrating the 4th.
