Space Coast Books & Vintage

Space Coast Books & Vintage I once was an eclectic used bookstore in Melbourne in Florida, sadly, the storefront closed BUT!

I'm coming back to the community soon as an online store soon, bringing years of lovely volumes out of storage and to shelves of literary fans everywhere. Formerly SSD Books, New Haven Books carries on as a unique Used and Rare Bookseller located in the historic district of downtown Melbourne Fl.

We love how this Michigan community showed up for their local bookstore by creating a "book brigade" to move scores of titles around the corner to the shop's new location.

A Michigan bookstore convened a "book brigade" of more than 300 people to move 9,100 pieces of inventory from its old location to its new space -- one book at a time.

The Women's Prize for Fiction shortlist is out! Included in the longlist this year was Laila Lalami who noteable wrote "The Moor’s Account" (2014) fictionalizing the story of an actual 16th-century Spanish expedition to Florida from the point of view of the explorer Mustafa al-Zamori, a Moroccan slave.

The Women’s Prize for Fiction is one of the most successful and influential literary prizes in the world, championing and amplifying women’s voices.

Beloved Florida journalist and author Carl Hiaasen's talk at the Festival of the Arts in Boca is sold out, but we've managed to snag a $15.00 virtual ticket to drop in on his livestream for this evening March 5th at 7pm.

A pack horse librarian delivering books in rural Kentucky in 1938. During the Great Depression, the Pack Horse Library Project was a Works Progress Administration (WPA) program in which the librarians, who were often called "book women" or "book ladies," delivered books to remote parts of Appalachia.

To share their inspiring stories with kids, we recommend "That Book Woman" for ages 4 to 8 (https://www.amightygirl.com/that-book-woman) and "Down Cut Shin Creek: The Pack Horse Librarians of Kentucky" for ages 8 and up (https://amzn.to/3N8WAtf) πŸ™‚

For adult readers, there are also several excellent historical fiction novels about these determined librarians: "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek" (https://amzn.to/47ZbdHz), its sequel "The Book Woman's Daughter" (https://amzn.to/3RqH6Cn), and "The Giver of Stars" (https://amzn.to/4a0Ym9A)
