Does your ruler slip while you’re cutting?
Sometimes the problem is the ruler itself—especially older or very slick rulers. You can switch to a ruler with a grippy back or add grippy dots, spray, or strips to one you already own.
Hand placement matters too! If your hand is close to your body while your rotary cutter is much farther away, the pressure from the cutter can push the ruler out of position. There’s no prize for refusing to move your hand: pause, reposition it closer to where you’re cutting, and keep going.
And one of our favorite tricks? Add a shower safety handle from your local hardware store or Amazon!
What part of using a ruler gives you the most trouble: slipping, lining up your measurements, or keeping your cuts straight?
