Kitten Angel Thrift Store Celebrates One Year of Saving Lives—More Than 400 Kittens Helped
MELBOURNE, Fla. — Kitten Angel Thrift Store is celebrating its first anniversary, marking a year of turning donated treasures into lifesaving care for homeless and vulnerable kittens across Brevard County.
To celebrate the milestone, the thrift store will host a First Anniversary Celebration from Tuesday, July 21 through Saturday, July 25 at 2470 N. Harbor City Blvd., Unit B1, Melbourne. The community is invited to stop in for special sales, refreshments, giveaways, and to learn more about how every purchase helps save kittens' lives.
During its first year, proceeds from the thrift store have helped more than 400 kittens receive the food, shelter, and medical care they desperately needed. The funding has also made it possible for Kitten Angel Rescue to take on some of its most challenging medical and rescue cases.
Among them was Stormy, a tiny kitten whose cries for help echoed from a storm drain for several days before rescuers were finally able to bring him to safety. The rescue also cared for Aurora, a kitten who suffered a broken leg after being thrown from a moving car. Both stories captured the attention of local news outlets and, thanks to the generosity of the community, both kittens received the specialized veterinary care they needed to recover.
“The thrift store has changed what's possible for our rescue,” said Nina Verruso, Executive Director of Kitten Angel Rescue. “Because of the incredible support from our community, we've been able to say 'yes' to kittens with complex medical needs who may not have had a chance otherwise. These are the moments that remind us why the thrift store is so important. When a kitten comes to us with critical injuries or extraordinary medical needs, we don't have to wonder if we can afford to help. Because of our supporters and our thrift store, we can focus on saving lives.”
The store is operated entirely by 14 dedicated volunteers whose passion and commitment have transformed donated household goods into a reliable source of funding for the rescue. Their hard work has created a welcoming neighborhood shop where every purchase helps homeless kittens.
“Our volunteers are the heart of the thrift store,” added Verruso. “They donate countless hours sorting donations, helping customers, decorating the store, and making sure every dollar goes as far as possible for the kittens in our care.”
Throughout the anniversary week, shoppers can spin a prize wheel each day for discounts of up to 50% off their purchases. Visitors can also purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a large prize basket filled with generous donations from local businesses and supporters.
The celebration culminates on Saturday with a special anniversary party featuring live music, complimentary cake and punch, and the drawing for the grand prize raffle basket at 4:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to celebrate a year of giving vulnerable kittens a second chance.
