John Stacy hasn’t missed a Memphis Tigers home game since 1998. He lives in Atoka, Tennessee, a 40-minute drive for the 67-year-old veteran. That pales in comparison to the three-day trip he's taking to attend his 193rd consecutive Memphis football game when the Tigers open the season in Las Vegas against UNLV on Saturday. 🏈🚙

No game is too far. One time, he hung out with former Tiger Antonio Gibson on the sideline before Memphis kicked off in Annapolis, Maryland, against Navy in 2022. He said that, as a former Navy corpsman from 1977 to 1991, standing on the field singing the Navy alma mater is a moment he said he’ll never forget.

But whether the Tigers are playing Temple in Philadelphia or East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina, Stacy will always drive. The only time he hopped on a plane to attend a Memphis game was when the Tigers were scheduled to play in the 2021 Hawai’i Bowl, which eventually got canceled. If it were possible to get to Hawaii by car, Stacy would have driven there too.
