✨ Finch Week! ✨
Think you know American Goldfinches? Here are a few fun facts that might surprise you!
🌻 They eat an almost all-seed diet, so they rely on dependable water sources, especially during hot, dry weather.
💛 Unlike most songbirds, goldfinches molt twice a year. Their brilliant yellow breeding plumage fades in fall before returning each spring.
🐣 Goldfinches are one of the last birds to nest each summer, waiting until thistle and other native plants have gone to seed so there’s plenty of food for their chicks.
🎶 Listen for their cheerful, bouncy song and their familiar “po-ta-to-chip!” call as they fly overhead.
