🐦💙 It’s time to celebrate bird dads! Many father birds work hard to help build nests, protect their babies, and bring food to the family. 🪺🐛 Some even take turns keeping the eggs warm. Next time you’re watching your feeders, see if you can spot a busy bird dad on duty. 👀🌿 They may be small, but they are mighty helpers! 💪✨

June is National Pollinator Month! It's a wonderful time to show some love to the bees, butterflies, birds and other small creatures that keep our world blooming. Pollinators are responsible for much of the food we eat, from juicy fruits and crunchy veggies to nuts and seeds. They also play a behind-the-scenes role in preventing soil erosion, boosting carbon storage and keeping ecosystems thriving. Adding native plants to your yard, balcony or even a few patio containers creates safe spaces packed with the nectar, pollen and shelter that pollinators need to survive.

(The North American landscape supports many different pollinators. Ask us which species are likely to visit your backyard.)

This time of year, many young birds have left the nest but are still learning how to survive on their own. While they may look almost like their parents, fledglings are busy growing feathers, strengthening muscles, and learning essential skills like finding food and avoiding predators.

Growing healthy feathers requires a tremendous amount of energy and nutrition. Feathers aren't just for flight, they help birds stay warm, repel water, attract mates, and survive the challenges of the natural world.

That's why summer is such an important season for backyard birds. As fledglings grow and adult birds prepare for molt, their nutritional needs increase.

Keeping your feeders full is one of the best ways to help support the next generation of backyard birds.

Have you spotted any fledglings in your yard lately? Tell us what you've seen! 👇

Did you know a bird's feathers do much more than help it fly?

Feathers provide insulation, repel rain, protect birds from the sun, help them escape predators, and even play a role in attracting mates. In fact, feathers are so important that birds spend a significant amount of time each day preening and maintaining them.

Healthy feathers are essential for survival. Damaged or worn feathers can make it harder for birds to fly efficiently, stay warm, find food, and avoid predators.

That's why this time of year is so important. Many young birds are growing their very first set of adult feathers, while mature birds are preparing for molt, the annual process of replacing old, worn feathers with new ones.

Growing feathers requires a tremendous amount of energy and nutrition, making it one of the most demanding times in a bird's life.
