What would you tell your just-got-home-from-the-mission self?

Davis Smith (Cotopaxi founder & former mission president) put his answer in a book. "The Next Ten Years" is a real-world guide for returned missionaries navigating the biggest decade of their lives—education, career, relationships, finances—while keeping Jesus Christ at the center. It's a gold mine of good advice!

“If you are prone to worry that you will never measure up, or that the loving reach of Christ’s infinite Atonement mercifully covers everyone else but not you, then you misunderstand. Infinite means infinite. Infinite covers you and those you love.” —Elder Patrick Kearon

We talk a lot about moving forward, pressing on, enduring to the end. And all of that is important. But sometimes, as Patricia Holland once said, we find ourselves “running to the point of exhaustion.”

“Please stop running to the point of exhaustion. Be quiet. Be still. Simplify. Be meek and lowly of heart, and pray. I testify to you that miracles will come when we slow down, when we calm down, and when we kneel down.” —Patricia T. Holland

Artist Jane Wilson Boyle paints to “invite a pause,” and we think these four paintings do exactly that. 🤍

Sometimes we focus so much on the gap between where we are and where we think we should be that we forget Christ already stands in that gap.

When we let Him carry that weight, we’re free to show up differently for the people around us!

Lyrics:

Oh child, don’t you know what His love is?
Oh child, on the days that are hardest
It’ll feel like the whole sky is closing in
On the worry and fear that you’re holding
And all the rain will make your pain feel like you’re all alone
Like you’re all alone

Oh child
But what if I told you no matter how far
His Spirit can lift you where you are
Oh child
And what if I told you no matter how low
He has descended far below
And all things will work for thy good
Can’t forget He’s stood where you’ve stood
Oh child
What if I told you that nothing can hold you
From where you supposed to go

O child, yes He knows where your heart is
O child, now you just need to follow it
Y’see He knew thee long before you were in the womb
And he felt you in the garden under the full moon
But still you wonder how it ever could have been for you

Oh child
But what if I told you no matter how far
His Spirit can lift you where you are
Oh child
And what if I told you in your ten thousand days
He’s heard every word you’ve ever prayed
And all things will work for thy good
Can’t forget He’s stood where you’ve stood
Oh child
What if I told you that nothing can hold you
From where you supposed to go
Oh child

There’s a billion trillion stars
But he knows exactly where you are
Yeah there’s a billion trillion stars
But he knows, he knows exactly who you are
Exactly who you are

Oh child
What if I told you no matter how far
His Spirit can lift you where you are
Oh child
And what if I told you no matter how low
He has descended far below
And all things will work for thy good
Can’t forget He’s stood where you’ve stood
Oh child
What if I told you that nothing can hold you
From where you supposed to go
Oh child
