That little 2×2 sample doesn't tell the whole story.

When you're choosing flooring, it's easy to fall in love with—or rule out—a product based on a tiny sample.

But once that flooring is repeated across an entire room, surrounded by your cabinets, countertops, paint and furniture, and viewed in your home's natural light… it can look very different.

That's why I encourage homeowners to slow down and look at the whole picture before committing.

See it. Compare it. Take samples home when possible. Ask questions. Then decide.

Sometimes the transition between spaces deserves a little more attention.

This project started with carpet and was transformed with wood-look tile, but the stair risers became the real design moment.

Instead of treating the stairs as an afterthought, the homeowner chose ornate, hand-painted Mexican tile to bring color, character, and personality into the space.

Turning the stairs into a statement.

One of the things I’ve discovered over the past year is that I genuinely love teaching.

I love helping homeowners feel more confident.

I love helping designers understand flooring just a little better.

I love building relationships with people who care about creating beautiful spaces.

Next Wednesday, I have the opportunity to do all three at Gio Warehousing’s Lunch & Learn for interior designers, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

I’ve been working on a quick reference guide for attendees and can’t wait to share it.

Most people imagine new flooring starting with beautiful new materials.

In reality, every great installation starts with careful preparation.

Before new floors can be installed, the existing flooring has to be removed, the remaining thinset ground down, and the concrete subfloor cleaned and prepared for what’s next.

It’s not the most glamorous part of the process—but it’s one of the most important.

I want to share the unglamorous side of flooring projects so you can see everything that goes into creating a floor that’s built to last.
