We are in “yard sale season,” and did you know Side Hustle Vintage & Thrift takes donations?
Why should I donate to a shop that is not a 501(c)(3)?
We can’t provide you with a receipt for your taxes, but…
• Your items are respectfully sorted, researched, repaired if needed, steamed, cleaned, and priced fairly.
• Whatever items we can’t use are put into a “free” box or donated to our favorite thrift shop in Henderson.
• We host two completely free community events monthly where we provide refreshments and pass out goodie bags.
• We accept donations up to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
• Side Hustle Vintage & Thrift is a true old-fashioned local ma-and-pa shop. We have no employees, no volunteers, no tax breaks, and we do not have a parent company that pays its CEO an outrageous salary (uh, hello, Goodwill!).
• We are the designated golf club drop-off location for the Mesquite Iron Cactus Memorial.
• We are pet-friendly! We love to see your babies!
• It’s important to support small businesses in Mesquite. If not, it leaves only the option for large corporations to come in, and who wants a town full of strip malls and big-box stores?
• We are no longer able to buy items or take anything on consignment.
Since we have been open, we have yet to make a profit. We aren’t enriching ourselves off your donated items. Ma-and-pa shops pour their hearts and souls into their businesses. We love our new home of Mesquite and hope to be here for a long, long time. We can only do that with your help. One way you can help is, of course, to shop here, but also to donate your leftover yard-sale items. We appreciate anything and everything that is given to us, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and promise to give back to this community in the best way we can.
What we can’t take:
• We can’t allow donations to be left at our door when we are not open.
• We cannot take large pieces of furniture, large appliances, medical devices, used bedding or towels, items with obvious mold or cigarette smells, urns with remains, or baby items (please donate baby items to The Right to Life, which we support).
• Bibles, BOM, rosaries, and items of religious faith (unless designed as decor) will never be sold for money; instead, we will give them away for free to anyone who wishes to have them.
In the future, you may see more posts about how important it is to support our small businesses. I have heard from others in town who are also struggling, and my heart goes out to them. I will be the one who says the quiet part out loud even when they can’t.
