September is “Snip-tember” at Star Nursery! After months of extreme heat, your landscape may be looking a little rough, but don’t count your plants out just yet.

Now is the perfect time to refresh and restore your landscape with light, purposeful pruning. Remove damaged or burnt growth, check trees for heat stress and disease, refresh shrubs and roses, and encourage healthy new growth. September is also a great time to prepare your beds for fall color, plan your cool-season vegetable garden, overseed fescue lawns, and check your irrigation system.

🌴 Thinking about planting a palm? Late August can be a great time to get it in the ground!

Warm soil encourages root growth, giving your palm a chance to establish before cooler weather arrives. When planting, choose a location with plenty of room for mature growth, dig a hole 2–3 times wider than the root ball (but no deeper), and keep the top of the root ball level with or slightly above the surrounding soil.

💧 Water deeply and consistently while your palm establishes, especially during our hot desert summers. A 2–4 inch layer of mulch can also help retain moisture and regulate soil temperatures. Remember to keep it away from the trunk.

➡️ Ferti-Lome Soil Acidifier + Iron

🔥 Leaf tip burn → salt buildup
➡️ Deep periodic leaching (flush the soil)

🖤 Black sooty coating → pest honeydew + mold
➡️ Treat pests first, then wash foliage
