🌿 NEW ITEM — Lagenandra keralensis! 🌿

Check out this beauty! Lagenandra keralensis is a unique member of the aroid family from India and a fantastic choice for anyone who loves unusual plants. It develops gorgeous textured green foliage and has that wild, tropical look that immediately stands out in a planted setup. One of the coolest things about Lagenandra is its close relationship to Cryptocoryne—think of it as one of Crypt’s lesser-known, exotic cousins! 🤯 It can be grown in high-humidity emersed setups, making it an awesome option for paludariums and terrariums, and it can also be used in suitable aquarium setups. If you’re tired of seeing the same plants everywhere, Lagenandra keralensis is definitely one to add to the collection. 🌱🔥

💨🌿 What Can You Put in a CO₂ Bubble Counter Besides Water?

Your bubble counter doesn’t actually need water specifically—it just needs a liquid that allows the CO₂ to form visible bubbles so you can monitor your injection rate. Different liquids have their advantages:

* Distilled Water — Cheap, clean, and easy to find. Pro: simple and safe. Con: evaporates relatively quickly and needs occasional refilling.
* Mineral Oil — One of the better water alternatives. Pro: evaporates extremely slowly and gives nice, visible bubbles. Con: thicker than water, so your bubbles may behave differently and your old “bubbles per second” setting may not translate exactly.
* Plain/Unscented Baby Oil — Usually mineral oil based. Pro: inexpensive, easy to find, and very slow to evaporate. Con: fragrances or other additives are unnecessary, so plain mineral oil is preferable.
* Glycerin/Glycerol — Very thick and slow evaporating. Pro: bubbles move slowly and can be very easy to count. Con: its high viscosity can make bubble behavior noticeably different from water.
* Water + Glycerin Mix — A middle ground. Pro: slower evaporation and slower bubbles than straight water without being as thick as pure glycerin. Con: you have to mix it, and bubble counts still won’t correspond directly to water-based counts.
* Commercial Bubble-Counter Fluid — Made specifically for this purpose. Pro: typically designed for good visibility and low evaporation. Con: costs more when inexpensive alternatives can accomplish essentially the same job.

🌿 Yareta — The 3,000-Year-Old Plant

At first glance, these incredible green formations high in the Andes Mountains look like rocks completely covered in moss. But they’re actually something much more fascinating.

This is Yareta (Azorella compacta), also known as Llareta—a flowering plant that grows in the harsh highlands of Peru, Bolivia, northern Chile, and western Argentina at elevations of roughly 3,200–4,500 meters (10,500–14,800 feet).

To survive the freezing temperatures and relentless winds, Yareta grows into incredibly dense, compact colonies that hug the ground. These formations can become so solid that they’re capable of supporting the weight of a person. Its tightly packed growth helps trap heat and protect it from powerful mountain winds, while its waxy leaves help reduce moisture loss.

But the most incredible thing about Yareta is how slowly it grows—only about 1.5 centimeters per year.

Because of this extremely slow growth, some of the massive Yareta colonies covering the rocks of the Andes are estimated to be more than 3,000 years old.

Imagine looking at a living plant that began growing more than a thousand years before the Roman Empire. 🤯🌿

🌿 NEW & COMING SOON — AVAILABLE FOR PRESALE! 🌿

I’m excited to be bringing in two really unique plants that are perfect for anyone looking to create that natural bonsai/tree look in an aquarium, paludarium, riparium, or wabi-kusa style setup. These aren’t your typical aquarium plants—the coolest part is the way they can be grown with their roots in the aquarium while the trunk and foliage grow up and out of the water, creating a true miniature tree effect.

🌳 Feoniella lucida “Bonsai” — This plant naturally develops a woody trunk with small, dense foliage and can be trained and trimmed into an incredible bonsai shape. It’s especially impressive positioned on hardscape or along the edge of an aquarium where the roots can remain wet/submerged while the trunk and canopy grow above the waterline. With pruning and training, you can create some seriously impressive miniature landscapes.

🌿 Phyllanthus cochinchinensis “Tipsy Wood” — Another amazing woody plant for creating an above-water tree effect. Its branching growth and small leaves give it a naturally aged bonsai appearance. It can be incorporated into rock and wood layouts with the root zone kept consistently wet while allowing the branches and foliage to grow emersed above the aquarium. This makes it a great centerpiece for open-top aquariums, paludariums and ripariums.

These are going to open up some really cool possibilities for aquascaping—especially if you’ve ever wanted a living tree actually growing out of your aquarium. Both will be available for PRESALE, and quantities will be limited on the first shipment.
NOT MY PICS. THESE ARE JUST EXAMPLES.
