In 1947 Allred & Higgs, was created by Frank Allred and "Turk" Higgs, as a wholesale distributor partnership. Located near 6th South on State Street, in Salt Lake City, furnaces and other heating products were offered to local heating dealers and servicemen. Higgs retired, and George Allred joined his brother Frank as a partner, and the buisiness was known as Allred's Distributing. A third brother
Dan Allred joined the company shortly after, which was reorganized as a Utah corporation and known as Allred's Inc. A move to a new, larger location at 4092 South State Street was accomplished in the early 1950's, followed by numerous building and improvement projects at or near that location over the years to follow. Eventually, as the company grew and prospered, the remaining Allred brothers, Reed and Wynn, associated with the company and contributed to its development and operation which began to expand into air conditioning and sheet metal fabrication. A new facility around the corner on Gordon Avenue was begun during the 1960's to provide room for growth. A Utah county branch was developed and opened in Orem, Utah in 1971, to be followed by a Weber County branch, located in Ogden, in 1976. Early sheetmetal fabrication activities was greatly enhanced in 1987 by the aquisition of the former Uni-Fab manufacturing company, which was included in Allred's scope of activities, and known as All-Fab Manufacturing Co. Allred's Electrical Wholesale was opened as a division of the company in to supplement heating and cooling sales by developing a volume of business in the electrical construction and maintenance trades. Anticipating future growth and development, and recognizing the limitations of available space at the Gordon Avenue location, in 1995 Allred's began a long term aquisition and development program to provide a new headquarters conveniently located in Midvale, Utah. All Salt Lake operations were moved from Murray to the new Midvale Headquarters in 2003. Now, in 2011, Allred's looks forward with confidence and optimism toward future development and growth opportunities. The company is currently owned and operated by its employees, including several 2nd and 3rd generation members of the Allred family along with many long term business family associates, in four Utah locations; Logan, Salt Lake, Ogden, and Orem.
