After 2 back surgeries and a spinal cord stimulator implant in 2024, I found a creative outlet during those hard times in crafting and floral preservation.

MADS Broke Back is my journey of healing, strength, and handmade beauty. Proudly serving the QC 🩵 Hi, I’m Melissa! I married the love of my life Michael in 2023 and we share our home in Milan, Illinois with our two dogs, Bjorn and Gyda. That’s how MADS Broke Back Flower Preservation came to life — “MADS” for my name, Melissa A Dennhardt Shipp, and “Broke Back” for the journey that shaped me. What began an outlet during a time of hardship has become a true passion that I deeply enjoy — creating meaningful, one-of-a-kind keepsakes for every person who brings their flowers to me. It’s a story of strength, healing, and handmade beauty, and I’m so grateful to share it through each piece I create.

This all-white bridal bouquet was such a beautiful one to preserve! 🤍 I love how the different florals, touches of greenery, and delicate gold flakes came together to give these keepsakes just a little extra sparkle. ✨ Even without the sunshine cooperating and the moisture in the air this week, this collection still shines!

A family has suffered an unimaginable loss, and it means so much to me to be trusted with preserving these special flowers. Every piece I create is made with love, care, and attention to detail. As I work on memorial pieces like these, my thoughts and prayers are with the family, and I hope these keepsakes bring them comfort and remind them of the love and happy memories they shared with their loved one. 🫶🏻🩵

This sweet couple had a small ceremony followed by a later reception. I was able to get it preserved just in time to be displayed at their reception—bringing a piece of their wedding day into the celebration with all of their family and friends.

I absolutely love seeing the creative and meaningful ways my clients incorporate their keepsakes into life’s special moments. It made such a beautiful addition to their head table, and it’s something they’ll continue to enjoy for years to come.

It’s sneak peek Sunday!
It is also the start of Shark Week (this is like a holiday event for me 🦈😉), no worries though I’ll still be working away this whole week just with the bonus of sharks in the background 🤩 I also won a giveaway from Discovery that had official Shark Week merch in it!

🩵 Why I love being truly local to the Quad Cities 🩵

Growing up in a family-owned business taught me just how important it is to support local small businesses and the communities around them.

That’s why every MADS wedding bouquet and memorial floral order is dropped off in person here in Milan, Illinois. Instead of shipping your meaningful flowers away, we get to meet face-to-face, talk through your vision, and make sure every detail is just right before the preservation process begins☺️

One of my favorite parts of this job is getting to know the incredible people behind each bouquet and arrangement. Thank you for supporting local and trusting me to preserve some of life’s most meaningful moments 🫶🏻
