Power out in the bathroom? Don't call maintenance yet.
If your hair dryer or toaster suddenly stops working, it might just be a tripped GFCI outlet.
That is the outlet with the two little buttons in the middle. Usually, one says "test" and the other says "reset."
Before you worry about a broken circuit or wait for a repair person to show up, try this 10-second fix:
1. Unplug whatever you were using.
2. Look at the outlet. If the Reset button is popped out, push it back in until you hear it click.
3. Plug your device back in.
These outlets are built to keep you safe from shocks in rooms with water, like your kitchen or bathroom.
Sometimes they just click off if they get a little surge.
Resetting it yourself is the fastest way to get your power back on so you can get on with your day.
If the button won't stay "clicked" in, or if it pops back out immediately with nothing plugged in, the outlet itself may have failed or there is a legitimate wiring fault.
That is the point where you should definitely call for professional help.
