"You can complain AND persevere.
You can struggle AND succeed.
You can acknowledge that something was genuinely, objectively, sh*tty…AND be incredibly proud of how you handled it"
Man, I feel that. We here at Nerdodiversity have been going through some complete crap life situations in the last couple of years.
We complain.
A lot.
But we persevere, we get through, and we try to offer a smile to every person who comes to our booth at an event.
So, has our situation been objectively sh*tty? Oh freaking heck yes. But I think it's made us all get closer as a family and a business and I'm proud for how we've pushed through.
We struggle.
So now (hopefully) comes the succeeding part. ☺️
A few people said I shouldn’t complain when I shared that I was trapped in the airport for 14 hours on account of United Airlines.
…So this post is the opposite of a complaint!
As previously mentioned, I was trapped for many hours.
By the time I arrived to my hotel, I only got 4 hours of sleep before rushing off to do my presentation.
If you’re new to my page, I was diagnosed with autism in 2007.
This means a lot of things, but for the purposes of this story,
autism means traveling and schedule change is extremely difficult for me.
But I care deeply about my advocacy work, so giving up or cancelling is not on the table.
Throughout this nightmare, I didn’t cry once. No meltdowns.
Sure, I complained.
And yeah, I’ll be having a little chat with folks at United Airlines.
But I also gave my absolute best to my community, because that’s what they deserve.
And then I walked 5 miles, explored the city of Chicago, and ended the day by swimming laps for an hour at the hotel pool.
You can complain AND persevere.
You can struggle AND succeed.
You can acknowledge that something was genuinely, objectively, sh*tty…AND be incredibly proud of how you handled it 💜
