Today’s lathe-made parts: new valve stem and delrin valve guide, also drilled and re-tapped threads in the piston and did alignment with synthetic washers.

I’m pretty excited about this restoration project. 1983 Bach with some rough pits here and there.

It’s ready to go off to silver plating in the second photo, the first is just after stripping the original lacquer.

1947 French Selmer with a rich history, owned and heavily gigged with by a local professional Jim Hunt.

This horn needed a lot of love. It came in very well full of trumpet funk, missing two bottom caps, with a considerably torn bell rim and holes in 3 knuckles.

As well as a standard service (ultrasonic cleaning, valve and slide alignment, dents, washers and pads), we made two bottom caps from scratch, patched 3 knuckles, replaced a ferrule, soldered the torn bell rim, garland and a couple other joints, and gave it a full polish.

This beautiful horn was clearly built by artisans. Its parts are precise yet decorative. It was satisfying to get it back to proper playing condition. Tonight it went right out the door to be played on a gig.
