Congratulations to the 2025 Merchant of the Year, Sue Szpila and The Jewelry Store!

In 1980, Sue and her mother took a leap of faith when they purchased the former Holmes Watch Shop. They had no experience in the jewelry business, only a love for jewelry and a dream. They started with a mixed box of jewelry and homemade display cases in a tiny shop downtown.
Then in 2006, they moved into their current location, never imagining they would one day fill such a beautiful, large space.
Sue has helped countless customers celebrate life’s most meaningful moments: engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, and heartfelt surprises. She has been part of stories that families cherish forever. In fact, she now finds herself selling engagement rings to the grandchildren of some of her earliest customers, a testament to the relationships she has built through the years.
What makes Sue and her store so special is not simply longevity, but the way she has always conducted business. She believes every customer deserves to be treated fair, keeping quality pieces at reasonable prices, and that every purchase should feel meaningful.
Sue has been involved with Historic Downtown Millersburg since its inception, from previously serving on our board of directors to pouring wine at Boo in the Burg, she has been deeply involved in our organization since the beginning.
Her success is also a reflection of the strong support within our community, something Sue appreciates. And in return, she encourages others to support the many wonderful businesses that make Historic Downtown Millersburg such a special place.
Today, we celebrate more than a successful business. We celebrate dedication, perseverance, community spirit, and the friendly face that has welcomed customers for nearly half a century.
And knowing Sue, she’s probably not slowing down anytime soon. As she says, “I’ll be here until it isn’t fun anymore!”
