Happy Father’s Day!

It has been 26 years since I was able to celebrate Father’s Day with my father in person. While I miss him terribly, I am fortunate to be surrounded by so many things that he touched, taught, and inspired.

It got me thinking: If your dad were a tree, what kind of tree would he be?

Mine would be the native Sugar Maple.

The Sugar Maple was one of my father's favorite trees. With its strong, stately branching structure and dense canopy that provides shelter and protection, it is a beloved presence in the landscape. Yet it is the tree’s spectacular autumn display—when its leaves transform into brilliant shades of yellow, burnt orange, and fiery red—that makes it an icon of the New England countryside.

The sugar maple symbolizes resilience, generosity, and transformation—qualities that remind me of my father.

🍁 Resilience & Endurance
Sugar maples withstand harsh winters, and emerge stronger each spring. They represent strength, perseverance, and the ability to weather life's challenges with grace.

🍁 Generosity & Bounty
The tree freely yields its sap, providing nourishment and sweetness. For generations, it has symbolized giving, caring for others, and providing for family and community.

🍁 Transformation & Letting Go
Each autumn, the sugar maple's leaves change from vibrant green to stunning shades of gold, orange, and red. It reminds us that change is a natural part of life and that every ending brings the promise of something new.

When I think of my father, I see many of those same qualities. He provided shelter, guidance, and support. He endured challenges with quiet strength, gave generously of himself, and left behind a legacy that continues to shape those around him.

What type of tree would your father be, and why?

I would love to hear your stories.

Enjoy the day, cherish the memories, and celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, mentors, and father figures who helped shape our lives.

Among the blooms and quiet green,
We pause where busy days have been.
With grateful hearts and slower pace,
We honor those who gave their grace.

Our gardens grow in peace and light,
Because they stood for what was right.
For every freedom, every day,
Was shaped by those who led the way.

Many thanks to all who have served,
And those who continue to serve today.

Brrr... temperatures are going to drop tonight.

Frost is essentially frozen dew and water v***r in the air that collects onto leaves, flower buds, and the ground. When the temperatures drop, these droplets freeze.

Be sure to protect or bring in any sensitive material that came from cozy, warm greenhouses or from warmer southern states.
