Just a relaxed fireside chat about the Losi 5IVE‑T, with most of the conversation focused on its body panels and how they hold up to real use.

The 5IVE‑T 2.0 body is made from polycarbonate, commonly called Lexan in the RC world. It’s tough and flexible, but hard impacts, bends, and scratches can leave cloudy white stress marks and rough scuffs behind.

Something I remembered from my dirt-bike days is that damaged plastic can sometimes be brought back by lightly smoothing the rough areas and carefully applying heat. In this video, I work on the Losi body and show how controlled heat from a heat gun can reduce some of those white stress marks and renew the appearance of the plastic.

You definitely want to use low heat, keep the gun moving, and avoid staying in one spot—polycarbonate can warp, bubble, or damage the paint if it gets too hot. This won’t repair cracks or major structural damage, but it can make an old, well-used body look considerably better.

I was doing some maintenance on the X-Maxx while installing the WideMaxx kit and heavier springs. While I had everything apart, I noticed one of the shock shafts was bent, so I decided it was a good time to swap over to the coated shafts and completely service the shocks.

What surprised me was the oil.

This truck probably only has 10–20 packs through it since the last service, but look at the color of that shock oil when it came out. That’s a pretty good reminder of just how much is happening inside an RC shock that we never see—wear particles, contamination and normal breakdown from the constant movement of the piston, shaft and seals.

It’s also why shock maintenance is about more than just changing viscosity for tuning. Fresh, high-quality silicone shock oil helps keep damping consistent and gives you a chance to inspect the components you normally wouldn’t see. In this case, the maintenance also caught a bent shaft before it became a bigger problem.

Everything got cleaned, inspected and rebuilt with fresh JT’s Shock Oil, along with the new coated shock shafts and springs.

Quick little walk-around of the LOSI 5IVE-T 3.0. 👊

Can you spot the extra hardware I added? I reinforced the roof, hood, and front door areas to help keep the body panels together after hard runs. It’s a simple upgrade that’s already paying off.

One thing I really like about this body is that after a rough bash or testing session, I can sand down the scars, warm the plastic with a heat gun, and work it back into shape. It won’t be brand new again, but it’s a great way to keep it looking good without adding a bunch of unnecessary weight.

This truck is quickly becoming one of my favorites to drive. It’s always a conversation starter when people stop by during testing and tuning, and once the suspension is dialed in with the right setup, it absolutely soaks up jumps, rough terrain, and hard landings. That’s the part of the hobby I enjoy the most—making small changes, testing, tuning, and feeling the difference on every run.

JT’s Shock Oil is just one of the tools I use to fine-tune that suspension and keep the truck performing consistently. The goal has always been helping RC enthusiasts get the most out of their setups—not just selling oil.
