WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE SILENCE THIER VOICE?
When we discovered an incredibly disturbing case involving an arena owner and rodeo/youth rodeo/barrel racing/ranch rodeo sponsor we made a few posts. When we did, the emails from across the country started rolling in. So many that it disturbed my soul. Most with similar stories, different predator names. Let’s dive into the part no one wants to talk about, our part.
When we look past the allegations, we accept them. The predator smiles and goes back to playing in the big sand boxes while the victims are forced to flee and hide. Either we, as a lifestyle, do not believe the victims or we turn a blind eye because of what the predator offers us. They have the buckles, the stock, the connections, the arenas, the money or whatever they need to get away with SA, and it works. Over and over and over we are seeing it. Same story, different arenas.
Why? Why are we looking past someone that SA’ed one of our own and forcing the victim to watch them have fan clubs? Innocence was stripped away but these people are still hosting events and competing where the victim can’t bc we’re not only allowing them to compete, we’re welcoming it.
If a predator and a victim knocked on your door, which one would you take in? The harsh reality of it is, we leave the victim outside and welcome the predator in. Over and over and over at arenas across the country.
How do we think the victim’s feel when we silence their voice and celebrate their predator?
Don’t think it’s not happening near you, that it’s not your problem. It is your problem and it’s happening more than we realize.
Is there a young woman, mother, or child watching us practice, compete, hang out, host clinics, and train with someone that ruined their life? Is the blood of the next victim, second hand, on our hands?
The stories we have been received from SA victims and parents of victims are so incredibly disturbing. We treat the predator like a celebrity and the victim like a criminal.
Frankly, I had blinders on for many, many years. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s not because it’s not happening. If you have heard about it but defended the predator because, “He wouldn’t do something like that”, know you are a puppet in his plan. The same plan from the same predator playbook across the country. Same book, different names.
Can we stop looking the other way now? Do you want your kid in the arena with this guy? He’s not the only one, one of the other’s allegations are too traumatizing and graphic to post. Birds of a feather, same arenas. So you think one is innocent because, “He wouldn’t do that” or “He does so much for the community or the sport”? What about his buddy? Are they both innocent?
Not only are they in multiple arenas, there’s hundreds more just like them across the country.
If you come here and say that this case is old I’m blocking you because you are evil. The victim doesn’t wake up every morning and think that it’s okay because it’s “old.” Is it the only time it’s happened? Do predators tell the next victim to read the room and shut up because they are still welcomed and celebrated within our lifestyle and to look how it turned out for the last person they victimized? Or do they just threaten to unalive them or their families? Same playbook, different names.
We need change.
What will do you to be part of the change? Stop supporting arenas, clinics, associations, rodeo’s etc that look past the predator.
Trust that when it happens again you can queue the Netflix sound because I’m calling every single Association, sanctioning body, clinic, big name, arena, etc that knew the whole time and looked away. There’s a whole paper trail so coming after me or my family isn’t going to do anyone any good at this point. Also, bet I’m packing heavy for every trip, all day every day. You can figure that one out.
