✨ MAGIC LESSON: THE WITCH’S KNOT | PARTS 1 & 2
Beautiful Souls, today we are learning about the Witch’s Knot, what it represents, and where the practice of knot magic comes from.
Before we learn how to use something spiritually, I believe we should understand what we are actually working with.
🌻 PART 1: WHAT IS THE WITCH’S KNOT?
The Witch’s Knot is a symbol commonly used today in magical and spiritual practices. It can represent protection, spiritual boundaries, focused intention, connection, and keeping unwanted influence away. But there is an important difference between the Witch’s Knot symbol and knot magic.
The Witch’s Knot is a specific symbol.
Knot magic is the much broader practice of using cords, ribbons, strings, or threads to physically represent an intention.
When someone intentionally ties a knot, the knot can become a physical reminder of what they have chosen to protect, strengthen, release, remember, or work toward.
The string itself does not do the inner work for you.
Your intention gives the action meaning.
🌻 PART 2: WHERE DOES KNOT MAGIC COME FROM?
Knot magic is much older than modern witchcraft.
Across different cultures and periods of history, people have given knots, cords, threads, and bindings symbolic meaning. They have appeared in traditions involving protection, marriage, healing, remembrance, oaths, love, childbirth, and even beliefs surrounding weather. European folklore also contains stories about protective knots and magical bindings. Sailor folklore tells of winds being symbolically tied into knots and released when those knots were untied. However, there is something important I want you to remember as we learn together.
Ancient knot traditions and the modern Witch’s Knot symbol are not necessarily the same thing. There is not solid historical evidence showing that the exact four-loop symbol commonly called the Witch’s Knot today was universally used by ancient witches. Sometimes the internet mixes history, folklore, and modern spiritual interpretation together until they sound like the same thing.
They are not.
I want us to learn the difference.
That does not make the Witch’s Knot meaningless today. It simply means we can respect ancient traditions without creating a history that we cannot prove.
✨ YOUR LESSON FOR TODAY
Look at the Witch’s Knot and think beyond the symbol.
Ask yourself:
What am I intentionally choosing to protect?
What deserves stronger boundaries in my life?
What intention am I ready to stop talking about and actually commit myself to?
Because before we learn how to tie the knot, we need to understand what we are choosing to bind ourselves to. Next, we will move into Parts 3 & 4, where I will teach why knots are used in spiritual practice and how you can begin working with them intentionally.
