This shapely set of (8) white oak dining chairs in the Danish Teak Classics warehouse has a fantastic organic presence.
Each element of the chair is sculpted and joined smoothly to the next. I appreciate that the seats are a bit wider than the backs, which gives them visual and physical stability.
I’d use these in a dining space needing an elegant, soft shape. Depending on the intended space, I could see upholstery ranging from a beautiful mohair or fine wool to a bold print on the seats!

From the design studios of Scandinavia to the many homes of Americans , the story of mid century lighting is as much about the manipulation and diffusion of light as it is about form.

Poul Henningsen and his contemporaries helped redefine how light could be shaped, softened, and distributed within a space. Their designs became icons of modern living, bringing a thoughtful approach to illumination to an international audience.

Here is a small sampling of these enduring designs, including the PH Artichoke, PH 5, and PH 4/3. Each reflects a distinctive approach to craftsmanship, geometry, and the art of light.

At first glance, you might wonder, “What does an American furniture company have to do with Scandinavian design?”

Quite a bit, actually.

Baker Furniture’s collaboration with Danish architect Finn Juhl was an important chapter in bringing Danish Modern design into American homes. Juhl’s designs were adapted for the American market, often produced in more familiar walnut and maple, with proportions and scale adjusted to suit American interiors.

It’s an interesting example of how Danish design began crossing the ocean in the 1950s, evolving just enough to feel at home in America while retaining the distinctive forms and ideas that made Juhl’s work so influential.

Another fascinating piece of the story behind the rapid growth and popularity of Danish Modern furniture in America.

A recent addition to our growing catalog archive: an original OPE Möler catalog featuring designs by Ib Kofod Larsen alongside other defining designers of the period. It arrived with a group of pieces we recently acquired.

These catalogs are more than sales literature they capture how Scandinavian design was originally presented to the world. The photography, illustrations, typography, and thoughtful storytelling reveal an era when manufacturers and cabinetmakers understood that exceptional furniture deserved equally compelling presentation.

This is how you do refined rusticity. ✍️ Solid pine elements are brought together with exposed joinery in this vintage architect-designed bench, and the soap finish makes the wood soft to the touch.
I’d love to see this in an entry hall, or even at the end of an upholstered king-size bed. The chunky turned legs are legendary.

Wegner Workshop Wednesday 🙌🏽

An exceptional grouping of Hans Wegner designs is currently making its way through the workshop.

Here’s a behind the scenes look at the restoration process, including removing the teak paws for a thorough cleaning. I love how you can see the hand work on these.

Also in the shop is a solid teak and oak bench produced by Johannes Hansen, currently being cleaned and prepared for the showroom. More on that piece soon.
