Today we compare Delft pottery with blue and white Chinese Porcelain featuring pieces available at our shop, Claire Steyaert Antiques.
Sharing striking aesthetic resemblances, the Dutch potters of the 17th century artfully replicated Chinese imports of the time, though they differ in their underlying material composition of clay vs porcelain and methods of glazing and coloration. Delft: images 1 thru 4 - large Dutch wall plaque, 20th century. 1740s blue and white with yellow tin glazed plate. Then a pair of 1720s De Grieksche A Factory pair of plates, definitely imparting a Chinese flavor with a repeating pattern of diapre.
Chinese Porcelain: where Images 5 thru 10 show details of handpainted Chinese porcelain available - large Famille Jaune porcelain charger, Qing Dynasty, 19th century. Two Baluster form lamps, 19th century. And lastly, highlighting a large planter and ginger jar both sporting the classic blue and white of Chinese porcelain!
