TECH TIP TUESDAY:

Video effects are one of the quickest ways to up the perceived production value of your haunt, but they can be intimidating to get into if you’ve never worked with them before.

This week’s video is a step-by-step guide for creating a triggerable haunted moving portrait using a Sprite Video player and one of our Wireless Triggers!

We’re using videos from AtmosFX, but you can use videos from any other source for this. And you can change the trigger as well. You could use a motion sensor, a step mat, or even another controller to activate this effect.

Here are links to the products we used for this:

TECH TIP TUESDAY:

We’ve had a couple questions this past week about how to wire up the multiple LED lights on some of our Resin Hardware pieces and it made me realize I may never have shared this video I made on the subject!

TECH TIP TUESDAY:

I’m always excited when our friend Paul over at Halloween DIY and How-To posts a new video! His props are amazing and his videos are some of the most detailed and thorough prop building videos you can find!

This one is an update to his previous video on his Trick Trunk, which you can see on his channel here:
https://youtu.be/6nmWfRh_Y4s?si=QFeKYHWM-gLIap2n

I liked this video especially because it uses a Deer Motor. We tend to use a lot of our 12v Prop Motors in builds here, but the Deer Motor should not be overlooked. They are small and powerful for their size, run at a great speed for slower-moving creepy Halloween builds, and they plug directly into standard household power, so no need for additional speed controllers.

Check out more of Paul’s videos over on his YouTube Channel here:

And if you feel inspired to try out an effect like this you can find out Deer Motors right here:

Just in time for your Halloween-themed dance parties. Our resident Mech Board Master, Mark, made this shockingly danceable banger entirely from sounds sampled at our shop! I'm kind of in awe at how much it legitimately slaps!

Haunt season is in full swing and we’re hammering out orders here in the shop! What are you building this year?

Using pre-made mechs with store-bought props.

Ran across this awesome example by Whispering Cemetery showing how they attached one of the new Ultra Poseable Spiders from Home Depot to one of our Attack Mechs. I thought this turned out really awesome and serves as a good example on how you can take a cool-looking prop off the shelf and turn it into a really amazing animated effect using a pre-made pneumatic mech!

Have any of you done something similar? We'd love to see examples of other props created by taking a static prop and combining it with one of our pneumatic mechs!

I might have to try this myself if I can actually get one of these spiders if you all don't buy them up before they hit the floor, lol.

TECH TIP TUESDAY:

I found this video from YouTuber Zach Wally really fascinating and a good example of a mix of digital projection and practical pneumatic effects.

This is something I think we will see more of as projection mapping becomes more prevalent and as the big theme parks move more toward combining projection with animatronic movements.

Zach does a great job on the video and the finished prop. Lots of cool info on the original prop and on Zach's build.

Let's recreate one of my favorite illusions in the Haunted Mansion:...

WireMaster updates and Controlling AC Power with 12v Solid State Outputs!

We’ve been hard at working adding requested features and components to our wiring diagram web app: WireMaster.

So I figured this would be a good way to provide some information and tips on a topic we’ve been getting a lot of questions about recently, how to wire 110v AC power to our new controllers, which features DC Solid State Outputs.

Hopefully this video provides some clarity on that and also shows you all some of the super cool new features added to WireMaster.

If you haven’t yet, check out WireMaster over at https://www.frightprops.com/wiremaster

Also, here are some links to the main products shown in this video:

And you can check out the WireMaster canvas I created as part of this video right here:

And yes, I did forget to mute my email inbox notification sound while I was recording this, smh. But hey, maybe WireMaster will help cut down on the number of support emails we get?!
