For twenty five years, Minneapolis has been home to one of North America’s best kept secrets, a little shop called ‘Khazana,’ a treasure trove of rare Indian textiles, art and jewellery – the name itself being the Urdu word for ‘treasure.’ The vast collection of handcrafted objects is an expression of a lifelong love affair with exquisite fabrics and cloth by the shop’s founder, Anju Kataria. Reno

wned for her knowledge and passion for textiles, Anju has the kind of expertise that is cultivated through years spent working with weavers and tradesmen searching the far corners of the earth for beautiful additions to her collection. Every piece in the shop represents a story of the place from which it came, the hands through which it passed, and Anju became the storyteller.

Looking for something special for your dad on Father's Day? How about these incredible wrist cuffs!
Created by disadvantaged artisans employed by the organisation Omba Arts Trust in Namibia, these repurposed PVC cuffs are hand made, inexpensive, visually striking and durable enough for your dad to wear golfing, repairing the car, or doing any of the many rough and tumble things dads do to keep all our worlds turning.
Show your dad you appreciate him this Father's day with these or one of hundreds of other distinctive gifts at Khazana. And always remember to turn the lights off when you leave a room. You know your dad will appreciate it!

Khazana is open Fridays and Saturdays 12 to 4 and 12 to 5, or any other day by appointment. Come see us and bring your dad!

A lost weaving tradition preserved in family trunks and partition memories....

Khes is a soft but coarse hand loomed fabric from the Punjab.  It most commonly features repeating geometric patterns in bright colors or monochrome.  The weaving is reversible, and has been used primarily for bedspreads and other homegoods, but it is sometimes used as shawls, scarves and other garments as well.

Khes fabric used to be very common in Northern India but has changed since partition and diminished through the years as traditional crafts have fallen by the wayside.

Nonetheless it is still possible to find beautiful examples. A revival of the art form,  originally initiated by two student girls who were studying Khes for a school project, is underway.

At Khazana we have some exquisite and unusual examples of khes spreads in our collection.
Stop in to see these and hundreds of other hand made works of art and craft every Friday and Saturday 12 to 4 and 12 to 5, or any other day by appointment. Call 612-298-9955 to plan a visit.
