This is the last axe coming out of my CA shop. I won't be accepting orders moving forward because I'm moving out of California to pursue a business opportunity outside the mainland. I am leaving the Alethean Page up as a tribute to many that have supported me by purchasing my hand-built instruments, and to answer questions about these axes when I can.

About this bass: it came to me with the body gouged out in several areas, and completely needing a scrape to wood, body re-shape, and refinish. I suggested to the owner to wrap it in a custom printed vinyl (including the pickups) which was made for me by roaringtrinkets.com. They did a stand up job of taking my strict measurements, and printing out my buddy's (Marc Yap) band logo in Ultra HD. The separate printouts for the pickups were totally spot on, as you can see from the pics.

3m printed vinyl reacts to solvents like Lacquer thinner, so I needed to protect it with a coat of UV curing resin before I laminated it with several coats of pre-catalyzed lacquer. I restored the headstock logo, as the original logo was fading, and missing in some areas. Then gave everything a top coat of 2K matte clear. I installed an Aguilar 3 band EQ preamp to compliment Lace PJ pickups which really improved its versatility and sonic quality. The red strings are a nice visual touch, but required added shielding because they're not as conductive as non coated strings.

Hello everyone! I've not posted in a while. Yesterday, I spent some time listening to my old tracks, something I haven't done recently. There's a unique feeling I get when recordings match, or exceed, the "sound" that's in my head. It's very satisfying, and I wish I had more time to devote to making music. My new job, and luthier duties have taken most of it and I've not had a chance to do more recordings/productions.

I'd like to thank my collaborators, and followers for their patience, and understanding. I'll get right back at it first chance I get. I'm excited for the next track that's in the works, most of the audio is done, just need time to do the video, and some audio post production.

This next one will be the most rhythmically challenging composition yet, at least to us who were involved in it! 😂

Built this axe for myself. I'd like to thank Marcus van Engelen for his "tuneable headpiece" (his invention) which allows headless guitars to use traditional locking trems like the Gotoh Floyd used here. The headpiece works very well with the Floyd. Except for the fact that it's easier to tune, one feels like one's playing a fully locked trem system.

I customized the headpiece by veneering it and installing a laminated personalized monogram.

The neck is a 3 piece roasted flamed-maple/katalox neck with a roasted flamed-maple fretboard. The top was carefully stained to get a 4 color burst, but no lacquer was used, everything is finished in oil. I used a concentric pot, to have volume on top of the tone k**b, for a more minimalist look.

I worked on an old Ovation for a good friend's sister. The 4th picture is what it looked like when it was new. The finish was cracked, and lifting in places all over the top when it got to me.

We wanted it to look special for her so I decided on a glossy black background to contrast the faux abalone inlay tailpiece. I spruced up the fretboard with a matching faux abalone inlay. installed EVO-frets, and replaced the saddle, nut, tuners, and bindings. I coated the inlays with a UV curing resin, before I sprayed over the lacquer to give it a laminated look.
