Here's a short history lesson on J&W Moving:
In 1969, my grandfather, J. W. Jones Sr. started this moving company. Everyone called him JW, but I knew him as "Pops". I was too young to ever work with him, but legend has it he was one of the hardest employers to work for. He required his employees to work hard while they were on his payroll.
Unlike most employers, he wasn't sitting behind a desk, giving orders, and sending them out on jobs. He was out on the jobs working harder than his employees. That's one reason he was hard to work for, because he was on the job making sure the workers were keeping up with his pace. He was not a very big or tall guy, but he had the reputation of a hard worker.
When he started the business, he was an authorized agent for Red Ball, Stevens, and other international moving companies. He later got licensed to do the work for himself. He ran the business with integrity and it was founded on hard work. JW retired in 1995, and Johnny, his son who helped build up the business, took ownership of the business.
Johnny carried on JW's hard work ethic. I'm glad he did, because it was instilled in me as well. We believe hard work and integrity are the life blood of a small business.
The first picture below is a newspaper article from September 1983 with JW, Johnny, and two secretaries.
The second picture is of vintage semi trucks with trailers. JW collected these. There are some trucks with big name international companies on them that still exist today. There are also some trucks with names of smaller companies that are no longer in business.
It is a blessing that J&W is still in business today! We still assure "your move will be handled promptly, carefully, and as economically as possible... The folks at J&W Moving go to great lengths to make sure your belongings are protected during your move".
I hope you enjoyed the history lesson!!
