Good information.

While we are on the subject of import HONs - I saw this picture today. This is a modern Asian import HON labeled as a RARE Indiana Evergreen Hen on Nest and priced at $330! I’ll give this vendor the benefit of the doubt and assume that they truly thought this was an authentic Indiana HON - and this is why it’s so important for buyers to be knowledgeable about what they are purchasing. Unfortunately you can’t just rely on what the tag says (even in antique stores). So let’s talk about how I knew the second I saw this pic that it was not what the tag claimed it was - the head! There are several giveaways on the head: 1) the slick face & neck - Indiana hens have a feather texture on the face & neck 2) the round eye hump - Indiana hens have very detailed eyes with eyelids & brow 3) the ear/cheek bump - Indiana hens have a raised circular ear/cheek 4) small pointy beak & little wattle - Indiana hens have a slightly larger (and usually more rounded) beak & wattle 5) the connected small comb bumps - Indiana hens have 5 distinct small comb bumps. I hope this information helps buyers make more informed purchases. I don’t want anyone to pay $330 for a TEMU hen! (Special THANKS to That Radioactive Glass Girl for the picture!
