The darkness in the room abated and he saw the outline shapes of the furniture and fixtures in the room. The familiarity of the surrounds was relaxing. He lay in the bed, and a wave of sleep rolled over him.
The ceiling in the room faded out and he was in an open field. A shrill wind blew and ominous clouds rolled, coalescing in the sky. Large blue lightning bolts came from the center of the sky fi*****ng to the horizon. The thunder shook the ground; the vibrations caressed his body.
Shadows of invisible beings stretched over the ground with each flash of lightening. A numbness creeped through his body. Paralysis gripped him.
In the distance a rustling crowd moved towards him; in mass formation. Their boots made rhythmic sounds as they came closer. He made out their forms. They were wearing combat gear. They closed in around him and stopped in a circle around him. Their rifles clicked as they took aim. They did not aim at him yet at each other.
The crackle of gunfire was synonymous with thunder. The flash of the gun barrels were tantamount with the lightening. A horrific spectacle; heads exploded from the impact of bullets. Soon the ground was covered with dead bodies. Blood oozed out of them to mix with pelting rainwater. The lightening continued and the thunder mimicked evil laughter.
A group of men surrounded a huge cannon. They held remote devices to steer the monster device in the desired direction. There was a panel on the side. Three men were turning dials and made note of gauge fluctuations measuring variances in power. They closed it and slipped out of view.
The group dispersed leaving one man with the device. He spoke to someone off to the side. He pointed to the cannon and to the sky and said something inaudible.
He pressed a red button on his remote; the huge cannon recoiled in a blast. It shot a ball of blue light into the cloud filled lightening infested sky. The ball burst, the clouds broke apart lighting the sky for a long moment. The flash faded and stars came to view. A full moon lighted the ground still covered with the broken bodies.
The air was quiet for a moment and his paralysis subsided. He tried to step forward. He lifted his foot and the ground beneath him cracked sending jagged ruts to the horizon. Lava oozed out of the cracks and he shuddered. He tried to scream and squeaky noises came from his mouth.

Self Publishing isn't being Published. If fact it's a roadblock with mindf**k after mindf**k. Like Pink Floyd said in "Pigs Three Different Ones" "They're trying to keep our feelings off the Streets." They're not a Treat and they're really a cry"
