Not every project starts with a homeowner picking out samples in our showroom — some start with a phone call from a property manager who needs a unit turned around and done right.

This apartment kitchen and living area got a fresh, durable wood-look floor install ahead of move-in, and it's a great example of the work we do behind the scenes for apartment communities, condo associations, property managers, and owners across the Modesto area.

We never forget.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, off-duty FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller had just finished his overnight shift at Brooklyn's Squad 1. He was headed to meet his three brothers for a round of golf when he heard it over his scanner: a plane had hit the North Tower.

Stephen turned his truck around. He called his wife, Sally, and asked her to let his brothers know he'd catch up with them later. He drove back to his firehouse for his gear, then headed for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel — but it had already been closed for security. So Stephen strapped 60 pounds of firefighting gear to his back and ran nearly two miles on foot through the tunnel toward the burning towers, giving up his life while saving others.

He was 34 years old, the youngest of seven siblings, and a father of five.

Stephen's brothers later turned their grief into purpose, founding the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his honor — an organization that has since provided mortgage-free homes to catastrophically injured veterans, first responders, and the families of the fallen.

Today, we pause to remember Stephen Siller and every first responder and service member who ran toward danger that day so others could make it home. Their courage is a story worth telling every year.
