Fred Gieringer here are the photos of the huge Walnut slab that’s hanging in my studio you requested photos of. Oprah Winfrey bought the first two pieces for an island in her kitchen. I kept this one for myself to hang here. It always stops folks in their tracks when they see it, I surfaced it by hand with hand planes and cut in all the bow ties with chisels. A dear friend who has passed, who was very talented,

made the hands and metal structure that it’s hung with. My son Keith made the trim above the block & tackle that it is hung with.

This huge root was from the amazing curly English Walnut tree that the huge flitch above came from. The root was 18′ in diameter. We cleaned it up a little at a time over 5 years to get it ready to cut. It was full of stones and dirt that the root grew around. We cut it into 12/4 flitches. The wood is all highly figured with beautiful color. As always we have a limited stock available. Hope everyone enjoys! @ Talarico Hardwoods LTD

These English brown oak (Quercus Robur) logs are hand picked for good color & texture. Brown Oak is caused by the beefsteak fungus, Fistulina hepatica, when it attacks European oaks and turns the wood brown. It grows in about 1 out of every 500 Quercus robar and Quercus petraea oak trees in England and France. The “brown oak” that results from its growth in oaks has traditionally been the only sort of oak used in fine European furniture. We have a limited supply so come get this fine wood before its gone!

This Venetian Oak lumber was produced from Oak pilings salvaged from the lagoon of Venice.The holes and canals they create in the oak are caused by a species of saltwater clam, (Teredo navalis), a mollusk that feeds on wood pilings. Which in turn create this one of a kind piece of art or as I call it WOOD P**N! We have a limited stock, get some before its gone!

There is nothing compared to the feeling and excitement of opening up a highly figured log and seeing what is inside. We get to do this every year and I want to share some of these intense moments and very special figured lumber with all my loyal customers and all of you out there who are simply turned on by great wood. Here at Talarico Hardwoods we choose to call it . Which it certainly is to those who get the fever when looking at these fantastic pieces.
