We're closed today, but we wanted to honor the father archetype in all its forms- the protector, the builder, the one who holds the boundary between chaos and order, the energy that grounds and guides and gives structure and so we can grow wild within it. To the fathers, father figures, and those who carry that steady, rooted presence, we see the work you do, seen and unseen, and we thank you for presence.

we are here till 5 today!

The sun's at its peak today, and while I'm indoors at the shop counter, the plants are out there eating it up. Sun exposure powers photosynthesis- the process that builds all those antioxidant compounds plants use to protect themselves from oxidative damage. Those same compounds keep us youthful and fight free radicals when we consume them. So yeah- that.
I'll be at the Obsidian & Sage counter until 5pm. Come through.

Happy Solstice, O&S fam!
Today the sun reaches its highest point, and we many cultures across the world are taking pause to honor the light.
Did you know in Sweden, they raise maypoles and dance through Midsummer, celebrating fertility and the turning wheel?
In ancient Egypt, the solstice aligned with the rising of the Dog Star Sirius and the flooding of the Nile, marking rebirth and abundance. The phrase "dog days of summer" has been theorized to have begun here. (The other story is that the phrase represented the almost "rabid" conditions of the dehydrated symptoms of extra long hot-weather days, coming out of Ancient Greece- but I digress.)
The Druids gathered at Stonehenge to witness the sun rise through the stones, acknowledging the sacred geometry that connects earth and sky.
And in parts of China, the solstice honors the balance of yin energy beginning its slow return as yang reaches its peak.

These celebrations aren't just about the sun. They're about recognizing cycles, honoring what sustains us, and standing in gratitude at the threshold of change. The Old Ones.
They existed before names, before light separated from dark. And one of our Quad Cities artists has been sitting with clay, pulling these forms through. Tentacles coil from impossible centers while eyes open in surfaces that were never meant to see. The shapes- they rest on our shelf now, bearing silent witness to what happens when the veil thins. The ancients knew these forms and Lovecraft gave us an image of them that has never failed to stir the uncertainties of our soul's yearnings. You've felt it- the pull toward what lives in the margins. Come and stand before them. The old gods never died. They just wait to be recognized and taken to a good home.
