They called it the gun that won the West, and few objects are more tangled up in American legend than the C**t Single Action Army revolver. 🔫 Introduced in 1873, this six shooter ended up on the hips of lawmen, outlaws, soldiers, and cowboys alike, all of them trusting their lives to the same simple, rugged design.

What made it legendary was reliability. It was powerful, easy to repair on the trail, and it fired the same cartridge the Army used, so am******on was everywhere. It was not the fastest or the fanciest handgun ever made, but it worked when it mattered, in the mud, the dust, and the cold. A working cowboy might pay a full month of wages for one, then carry it every day for the rest of his life. The dime novels and later the movies did the rest, turning a well made tool into a symbol of an entire era.

The truth is that most men who carried one used it far more often to shoot snakes, signal for help, or drive nails than to face another man in the street.
