Every October we recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). It’s a time for us to recognize the contributions our employees with disabilities make to our workshop. Even though WE know, we want our community to know that everyone deserves the chance to work and reach their full potential. Our focus is to recognize our employees ability, their potential and their accomplishments. Employment provides more than an income. It provides a sense of purpose, confidence, being independent, and allows for being a part of a wonderful community. A Sheltered Workshop supports individuals with disabilities by giving them confidence, respect, dignity, support, helping to develop work skills, gaining work experience and an opportunity to succeed and have greater independence. Our employees take pride in a job well done and they each have something to contribute. When we focus on what our employees can do and not on what they can’t do we give them an opportunity to thrive in a work environment and be proud of the work they do. When we think of words that describe our employees at the Monroe City Sheltered Workshop we think courageous, hardworking, reliable, dedicated, enthusiastic, determined and eager to contribute skills they have. Don’t let a day go by without giving words of encouragement to those around you, you just don’t know what those words mean to someone! Congratulations to all our employees for showing up and giving your best each day. We appreciate you more than you know! We have included some candid shots of our employees working.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT leave us worn out stinky furniture. Now we are having to pay our hauler to get ride of it! Also if it is junk to you it is junk to us. We are so close to only being open for drop off while we are open so we can monitor what is left here. We don’t want to do that but we may not have a choice if the expense is greater than our income! Yes we have been able to get license plates and contact some but it is not always possible. Thanks to everyone who does the right thing we appreciate you!

Today we took a little time off to celebrate the 4th. We had a picnic in the park and we ended up at our favorite place BBs Ice Cream. We hope everyone has a chance to enjoy the holiday weekend. Be safe!
