THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the Night Circus Market last evening at St. Julian, and for coming to see me! Thank you for talking with me, for valuing my work, and for being so kind. This was a wholesome market experience and I feel incredibly grateful.

Here's two new pieces that I finished while sitting at my tent yesterday: a Baba Yaga coffin box and a little tree frog guy.

I burned a couple of new things for event prep. A quick note about process -

I only use colored pencil, watercolor paints, and/or wood tints/stains for color on my pieces because I WANT the wood grains to show through. The natural features of the wood have to show through because I think wood by itself can be beautiful. My woodburned designs just add to the piece, not take it over. I bought this plaque because of the knot, and I thought it would be unique for a piece like this. I was right however...

A thing about woods like pine is that they can be really sappy, despite being kiln dried or in long term storage. It's also a soft wood, and the grains - while being quite pretty at times - make it difficult to burn consistent line work due to the differences of the hardness. Pine has harder grains with super soft wood in between the grain, for example. I like the way the knot looks but burning around it was horrible for my lungs, and it was an immediate migraine due to the sap. Usually the burning process smells lovely, but burning sap...not so much. Live and learn...

Big announcement for our Carnival of Curiosities!!! We have our day of timeline all nailed down! Bands, clown shenanigans, a butterfly pinning class and a costume contest!!

The heart pendant reminded me of raw honey. It's agate, and the orange beads are also a type of agate with glass and metal beads to compliment the honey colors and gold bee 🐝🍯

I finished a third Frog and Toad-on-a-bike piece - the third photo, with the vines surrounding the amphibians. The third one is my favorite, though i wish I had done the the clovers on the ground differently.

I like to do more than one of the same template... because I love Frog and Toad, because they usually sell well, and because I try to challenge myself to make them a little bit differently each time. I don't usually get bored. Different background scenery, boarders, etc. I also do this with my bird pieces.
