I just wanted to pop on here and say hi! I’ve received so many messages about how quiet I’ve gotten. Thank you for taking the time to check in on my usually very social self!
I tend to flow with the rhythm of Mother Nature and get quiet when she’s resting. We all need to reset and recharge.
I also wanted to let y’all know I will be transitioning this account to a more personal growing account. I’m not growing flowers on the scale I have been in previous years. But I love growing flowers and connecting with community even if on a smaller scale. So you’ll see me figuring out how to bring life to my new space slowly but with intention. And of course my critters will be making appearances. I acquired a new critter…her name is Biscuit!
I’m working on a new arm of Fiery Magnolia and that will come about with time.
But for now…the sun is setting later, the temps are getting warmer (ssshhh, i shouldn’t say that loud), and Spring is around the corner! I’m waking up and so is the landscape around us!

Mother Nature is our greatest teacher. She has many lessons even if you reply “no thank you”, she’ll tell you she wasn’t asking. I was not born with a lot of patience but Mother Nature has continually showed up, told me to sit down and listen. ✈️

Admiring all the leaves in my neighbor’s yard knowing they’ll be mulch for meeeee.

Especially for future plans.

Tapping into local resources is always a great way to recycle & very cost effective.

Chopped leaf mulch is great
- improves soil
-insulates plants
- helps with water rention
- prevents weeds
- reduces erosion
- attracts beneficial organisms

You can cover your beds with them over the winter to feed and protect the soil. Use it as mulch during the growing season and create walkways in your garden!! So many good options!!

There was a time where I was scared to death of seeds. I wanted established flowers that had a little life in them where I had the confidence to keep them alive. But venturing into growing my own meant being budget conscious and willing to fail to learn. And you can grow sooooo many beautiful flowers from seeds! My journey with growing flowers may have shifted but it’s moments like this where you remember how far you’ve come, that flowers are your whole heart, your happy place. I put this arrangement together for a new mom and used dahlias, celosia, pincushion, Lisianthus, marigolds, cress, gomphrena, and celosia.

Baptisia tinctoria (seeds) also known as yellow wild indigo. This is a hardy native perennial flower in CT. One I really like having. Usually I hit up nurseries doing their Fall sales but I’m out here working and I look over to this plant and see the seed pods and I think to myself…what if I try growing them from seed. It’s a slower process but hey, patience is something I’m always actively working on and there’s no better teacher than Mother Nature. I gathered the seed pods and took them inside. They have a tough outer shell and it helps to soften that shell prior to planting. They also require cold stratification so getting them in the ground soon is necessary. I scuffed up the seeds with sandpaper, soaking them overnight then going to plant them and we’ll see how this little experiment goes.

New England Aster vs. Mums - people can debate and debate about these flowers and their benefits. I’m just gonna tell you some facts about them both.
New England asters are a native perennial with cooler tones (blues, purples, pinks, and whites). They bloom late summer through Fall and can withstand my zone 6 winters. They’re one of the last food sources for pollinators when temps start dropping. They don’t require a lot of care and maintenance and don’t have a lot of pest and disease problems. I love them because I don’t have to fuss over them.
Mums include warmer tones that we associate with Fall (yellow, bronze, reds) and tend to be shorter and have a more manicured look. There’s florist mums and garden mums. Knowing the difference is key in whether they will survive your winter. They also require more care with deadheading/watering so they look good. They are native to East Asia and northeastern Europe. They also tend to have more pest problems (aphids, spider mites, etc…).
Regardless of what you choose to use and enhance your garden with…understanding the flower is always helpful ❤️

My favorite season…Fall. Why? 1) Growing up in Louisiana, we didn’t experience the changing colors of leaves. I drove through the Catskills this weekend and just wanted to stop and admire the beauty constantly. 2) I also love that my favorite flower is one I still get to cut and admire. I’m about to dry a bunch in silica so I can create art during the cold winter months when flowers are done. 3) Pumpkins - growing my own and supporting local farmers 4) Sweet Potato Pie- I’ll eat it every day until i can’t find it anymore. 5) Fall is a reminder that change is always on the horizon. We have to shed the old to make room for the new.

Fiery Magnolia, the growing flowers part of my business is on pause. Indefinitely. I understand I put a lot out on social media but there are some areas of my life that are private for many reasons 1) my children 2) all of our mental health.
I can’t thank the individuals who watched me from the beginning and cheered on a mom creating a path that worked for her and her children. It seems like yesterday when I was out there throwing down boxes, creating beds and making pathways. It’s been a beautiful journey that kept me focused, taught me so much about discipline, patience, perseverance, hard work, not giving up, and following a dream.
I’ll still be doing events with local flowers but at a later date. For now, I’m taking some time to focus my attention where it belongs. I’ll have access to my flowers for a bit longer and can still do arrangements for the remainder of the season.
A special thank you to Kelly for pushing me and giving me the opportunity to bring my flowers to the market. That was a turning point for me and one I can’t thank you enough for. And for all the individuals that came out every week and sold out my flowers, your support really gave me confidence when I was shaking in my boots.
Flowers are my love language. I love to grow them, I love to work with them, I love helping people grow their own or educate people on the beauty of local seasonal flowers.
When I’m designing, you may see different surroundings, and that’s because my surroundings are different. I may post pictures of butterflies and my flowers going forward this season and that’s me being at peace and walking into change without expectations. Just taking a breath in a place I built and love so much.
I’m NOT DONE JUST UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Or maybe heading into my cocoon of goo to transform.
I’m still here, still local, just pivoting and working on how to bring people joy with flowers in the next chapter of Fiery Magnolia.

My happy place…flowers, working under pressure, and overalls! But i have to thank the people who see your style and are like….run wild my child! I’ve been blessed with individuals who find me to help express their vision with flowers and allowing me to be true to who I am. That’s a gift and one I don’t take for granted. AND she caught me in my natural state a few times ❤️
