What a busy wonderful weekend! Saturday was our Spring composition competition. Students who want to make their own piece begin this process in April, and they are finalized, decorated and performed for a judge on Saturday. They are also performed at the Spring recital the day after. One winner is chosen from each of the three levels. I so enjoy watching students connect the dots. From simple rhythms to correct stem notation and theory basics to mode mixture- our students learned so much this year. Several students put in extra work- I see this and appreciate your dedication!

The Spring Recital was fantastic! Thank you to ULM faculty and staff for the use of the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. A special thank you to The Sims Bakery (Alena Sims, 318-737-8220), Dr. Kari Johnstone, and all who attended. Simply attending shows support and encouragement for all students. There were two recitals and both were amazing. Even though so many students weren’t able to attend, about fifty students performed. Piano solos, piano duets, student compositions and a piano flute duet- all wonderful and beautiful. Every year I hear progression and improvement.

Lessons are optional during the summer (June-August). A lesson here and there or every week, just let your instructor know. Lots of fun activities are planned! 2026 has been a rocky year for so many. So please, take time to breathe this summer and enjoy life. Make time for moments with friends and family and relax a little. Students don’t forget about your piano! It will miss you! 🎶🌸😎

Our LFMC festival today was amazing! A wonderful turn out of hard working students and their supportive familes. This year our local music club, NELA Music Teachers Association, decided to have it competitive along with the yearly festival rules through state. The purpose of this event is for students to set a goal and reach it- learn two pieces and play from memory. Memory comes easy to some students, but can be very difficult for others. This is a huge success in itself. However this year our judges chose the top three students in each level in addition to individual ratings. Over 100 students participated. I so enjoyed hearing these students play in the competition recital. After all the scheduling and paperwork it was just relaxing to hear these students play beautiful music. Even better seeing these students grow into dedicated musicians.

NELAMTA is planning on having a similar event this Fall. Our teachers will keep you posted! Thank you Sarah Davis for your church facilities and thank you Ann Fenn for being our club treasurer! We appreciate you both! Thank you all teachers and judges who came. Thank you parents, family and friends for encouraging these students. And thank you for letting us teach your precious children music!

For those who participated in State Junior Composition I will have results sent to you this week. We have several in our area who placed 1st and 2nd in all of Louisiana! Keep up the great work! 😊🎶🎼

Our Christmas recital was absolutely wonderful this year! The recital was split into two smaller ones, allowing the students to play more. The recitals will be done like this from now on. About fifty students played and what beautiful music they performed! Thank you everyone who made room in your schedule for this event. The students appreciate your support and the teachers love watching our students grow into wonderful musicians! Thank you Pleasant Hill for the spectacular Christmas decorations! Shout out to Mrs. Alma and Lisa!

For students participating in the LFMC festival at the end of February, use the break to relax a bit but still remember your two pieces to learn and memorize! Holiday break is Tuesday 23rd December through Thursday 1st January. Lessons resume January 2nd.

Everyone be safe this holiday season, enjoy time with friends and family, and take time to relax! Schedules are slam packed these days- take time to do nothing and relax! We will see you next lesson students! 🎶😊
